English Shepherd Shadows -  My Blog About Savannah        July 10, 2012    The Pups are 18 days old today and doing very well.
The latest tech-driven gyrations upending traditional employment and increasing the divide between the haves- and have-nots are as profound as they are poorly understood by the public and federal lawmakers. That was the takeaway from David Cay Johnston, the renowned investigative business reporter, in a talk at San Francisco Public Press, an independent non-profit outlet.
The big picture painted by Johnston, who is a registered Republican but schooled in the belief that business prospers when wages and benefits are reliable and income is spent locally, was the fundamentals of middle-class stability are being further eroded by a new technology-based oligarchy.
During Johnston’s presentation, he said the protests against companies like Uber are not going to be enough to address the underlying disparities became they are based in federal law—or an absence of regulation—to create a healthier balance for employers, workers and the economy.
AlterNet’s Steven Rosenfeld spoke with him after his talk to further elaborate these points.
SR: You said these protests on the street against Uber aren’t really going anywhere, and neither is a litigation strategy because the federal courts are stacked with judges who are anti-labor, so where’s the pressure point? David Cay Johnston: Demonstrations like shutting things down can be very beneficial, but they are tactic not a strategy.
SR: The thing that I see as a reporter is that what unites the Bernie people and what unites the Trump people is they feel vulnerable.
So fundamentally we’ve got to find ways to build organizations that aren’t necessarily the organizations that are for people at their work. David Cay Johnston: So one of the ways to do that is nobody needs or can spend enormous huge incomes.
SR: Do you think there is an opening now because millions of Americans are looking to Bernie and looking to Trump to address deep anxieties? Distrust in the media is at an all-time high, and Trump plans to ride that enmity all the way to the White House. Student Protest, the Black Lives Matter Movement, and the Rise of the Corporate University. Quotography - a picture quote sharing community featuring inspirational, funny, motivational and inspiring quotes. Yet according to just-released findings by Pew Research Center in the first national survey about this corner of the “new digital economy,” most Americans have little idea of the changes underway.“Imagine that you are a mortgage lender. Are you going to lend people money for 30 years if they don’t have the security of employment?” Johnston said, offering an example of how the successful push by the technology sector to undermine and overturn the labor laws created during the New Deal are tilting too far toward piecemeal purveyors and will create new instability. Despite all the hip apps and marketing, gig economy profits are only going to executives while the jobs offered are intrinsically unstable, fiscally unpredictable and most of the risk and expense are placed on contract workers. And it’s government rules that help corporations pay less for labor and therefore make more profits, unless they push so far that they don’t effectively run the business. But we have a political culture whose language, whose rhetoric, whose understanding seems so dumbed down, so off every point you raise. My thought is a couple of reforms that we need is that even high income should be taxed at a much higher rate to discourage those high incomes. People know that the promise of the Reagan Revolution, that it would make them rich, hasn’t worked out. Both major parties’ presumptive nominees, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, have historically high net unfavorable ratings – so high that voters are said to be casting their ballots against a candidate rather than in favor of one. For some in society, this consideration factors heavily into their daily diet decision making.
We have to vote out of office those politicians in both parties who are rigging the game in favor of the oligarchs, who are feeding them and against everybody else. Secondly, if it’s wealth—you’re not spending the money, you’re building wealth—you should be able to build all the wealth you want, but when you die we should heavily tax it to take it away. The question seems to be: Who do you hate less? But this narrative, which threatens to be the dominant one of this political season, has two flaws. For other Americans, however, these numbers likely hold about as much significance as receiving weather updates in Celsius.Despite these varying perceptions, calorie counts remain one of the prevailing methods adopted by policymakers for addressing obesity and other diet-related illnesses in the United States. So they brief 5 of their direct reports asking for contributions to help put it together, your boss being one.
My grandsons Dylan and nicholas and I are spending alot of time with the pups.  In the next week we will start inviting all our friends and their children over to play with the puppies.
Despite all the hip apps and marketing, gig economy profits are only going to executives while the jobs offered are intrinsically unstable, fiscally unpredictable and most of the risk and expense are placed on contract workers.During Johnston’s presentation, he said the protests against companies like Uber are not going to be enough to address the underlying disparities became they are based in federal law—or an absence of regulation—to create a healthier balance for employers, workers and the economy.
But I have spent my whole life exposing problems and I have offered here and there solutions, but the fundamental solutions of how do you organize this society and a culture to change—I don’t know how to do that; it’s not what I do. You analyze whether there is enough too be shifted from a column here as a tax break and giveaway, to a column here as a public benefit that could be a safety net. And you shouldn’t be able to borrow against that wealth to live on—that’s how super rich people live tax-free. In the first place, none of the candidates has had particularly high favorability ratings this campaign – not Cruz or Sanders or Jeb Bush or even the anointed one, Marco Rubio. As of May next year for instance, chain restaurants with over 20 branches will be required to display the number of calories beside each menu item, per a provision included in the Affordable Care Act.In 2008, the first measure of this kind was adopted in New York City.
And perhaps nothing is more useful than the unpredictability of such moments, such movements. Well, a lot of people were elected to Congress because they went door to door in their district and knocked on every door for a year—things like that. I am in this bizarre position in the people I champion in my books are the people going with Bernie or Donald. And you say, as you said earlier tonight, there is enough money there to really have people lead more assured, confident and economically secure lives. If you had a $1 billion dollars and are spending only $10 million a year, you can borrow and get richer and richer without paying taxes.

The only reason you made the $10 billion is because you live in the United States of America.
Only John Kasich would qualify as “popular,” if a paltry net favorability of 12 percent makes you so.So Trump’s and Clinton’s ratings are the equivalent of, say, the batting averages during a baseball season in which no one is hitting very well.
The policy, lead by the city’s mayor at the time — affectionately nicknamed by critics “Nanny Bloomberg” — proposed implementing restaurant calorie counts alongside the well publicized banning of large sodas. The soda ban stumbled but though the calorie-count rule received a huge pushback by members of the New York State Restaurant Association (NYSRA), who sued twice, it eventually passed. It's one of the things that has helped them to be successful and get where they are and they have every intention of protecting that. And that’s a much better system, because most people can’t live in a world of unreliability. And I’ve written the toughest pieces about both of them that have been in this campaign—to the point where Donald called and threatened to sue me. We have the market and the technology that taxpayers have invested to make it possible, and now we’re going to go harvest it.
And the difference between them is people who are motivated by racial animus or other bigotry are going to one, and people who have a better—in my view—or more reasonable understanding of society are going to the other.
It seems logical — make people aware of just how much they are consuming and how their consumption is affecting their health, and they’ll eat less. You, not wanting to be compared unfavourably with your bosses' other direct reports, brief out 5 of your direct reports to do some solid desk research to make sure your boss is getting the best range and sources of information possible. We’re going to let that rich person who benefited from all that public investment and spending keep the money, and you’re going to be taxed so they can pay less. Several years after the fact, though, and in light of its more recent national implementation what we should be asking is, does it work?In a recent City Limits article it seems the short answer to that question is not really. When a faculty member and resident house adviser circulated an email critiquing the paternalism of such an administrative mandate, student protests erupted calling for her removal.
They’re two peas in a pod.But within this very angry electorate is another hate boiling, and it may very well alter the course of the election. While Yale declined to remove her from her post as a house adviser, she stepped down from her teaching position. Let's say each of those stages requires just two meetings between each of the individuals involved - perhaps to brief out specific requirements, and to look at the output.
A  That's quite a mouthful of false words, and certainly can't be used as justification for the own bad behavior of himself and his client, Eric William Swanson, to knowingly withhold my Summer 2008 Visitation of my daughter Claire.A  According to Eric, Mr. That is the hate the public feels for the media, especially the mainstream media. Many of us remember a time when the MSM actually were held in high regard — when CBS News anchor Walter Cronkite was among the most respected men in America, and when Woodward and Bernstein were lionized for helping save democracy from the undemocratic depredations of Richard Nixon. One in particular stands out for its findings, drawn from the analyzed data of 1,156 receipts of food purchased in New York City and Newark. Let's say each stage requires five emails - perhaps to set up a briefing meeting, clarify the brief, answer the odd question, agree a time for looking at the output.
More on the pups later.        June 28,2012       well Savannah's puppies are almost 1 week old.
Leading members of Congress will tell you that Bernie has never accomplished anything and doesn’t know how to, and he’s a miserable human being if you ever meet him.
As late as 2005, according to a Gallup survey, more than 50 percent of Americans trusted the media either a “great deal” or a “fair amount.” Not any more.
According to this study, published in Health Affairs, researchers discovered that there was no real difference in calorie consumption, even after half the respondents reported noting the calorie information. A  A Or if such unfounded statements Can be used, then our Alaska Legal System has some very serious flaws, which should be reviewed.A  I think the flaws are most likely in Mr.
These numbers, Pew added, were either at or near all-time highs.…Within this very angry electorate is another hate boiling, and it may very well alter the course of the election. That is the hate the public feels for the media, especially the mainstream media. But within these numbers there is something interesting. While no one seems to love the MSM the way they did back in the 1960s and 1970s, Republicans like them a lot less than Democrats do. In an interview with Ungar-Sargon, Platkin explained that one of the major problems behind calorie labelling was consumer's understanding. In an interview with Ungar-Sargon, Platkin explained that one of the major problems behind calorie labelling was consumer's understanding. Gallup found that 55 percent of Democrats continue to trust the media, but that trust is shared by only 32 percent of Republicans. And Pew found another partisan disparity, and one significant anti-MSM cavil: Democrats still believe that the press protects democracy rather than harms it, 59 percent to 27 percent, while Republicans believe news organizations hurt rather than help, 46 percent to 43 percent.
More on Savannah and the puppies later.       June 23,2012    Savannah went into hard labor yesterday morning.
But if you destroy belief in objectivity, you destroy the media’s ability to successfully examine and criticize. A  A The real issue at hand isn't whether or not I'm a fit parent or a loving Mother; the larger looming question is who's behind and directing the scene to make me appear to be less than capable of doing so? The embrace of illogic and unreason – everything from climate change denial to birtherism — by huge numbers of Republicans is facilitated by the fact that there is, in the public’s mind, no credible instrument to challenge them. A  A All this hot air and an imaginary MP scenario, which functioned as a collective Mirage over several folks I know, does prove they were up to something, for some reason.A  A It isn't my job to prove why people would lie, but as my Mom always said, "People will lie about anything."A  Wow!
And unfortunately, rather than push back and defend the ideal of objectivity, the press have caved by substituting balance instead, which in practice simply means that you treat both sides equally whether they’re equal or not. Pic will be up soon as i can get some rest.      June 20,2012  Well i thought last night would be the night, but Savannah proved me wrong. Remember, Fox News’ slogan has been “fair and balanced,” not “honest and objective.”So, yes, in their own suicidal way the press has contributed to the level of distrust, but nowhere near as much as Republican elites. GrantA  continues to lift selected statements from "Frozen Fiefdom" and drops them into the same trash bin of recycled words that he's used previously.A  Apparently, I was correct in my assumption that he suffers from a learning disability, and is handicapped by limited reading comprehension skills.

Ladd, in his 2011 book Why Americans Hate the Media and How it Matters, discovered that the Republican elite’s criticism of the media was more responsible than any other factor in denigrating the media among educated conservative Republicans. I don’t want to say the chickens are coming home to roost for the intellectuals among those conservative elites, but the trouble with destroying the idea of press integrity is that once it’s gone, you cannot just revive it to take on a potentially fascist demagogue when you need to.But over the years, Republicans managed to do something else besides eroding confidence in the press – a lack of confidence, as I have said, that many Democrats share.
If the first left the media helpless to criticize the right because they supposedly lacked credibility to do so, the second made the media into a kind of recruiting and fomenting tool for all those disgruntled right-wing white men who are the primary audience for Fox News and the foundation of today’s Republican Party.
You see this media baiting on Fox News all the time and also at Trump rallies, where the media are literally penned in – in some ways, for their own protection. Indeed, few techniques are more effective for rousing the disaffected than press hatred. To be honest, this is a brilliant bit of demagogic trickery. Every time the press scrutinizes you, you can not only sneeringly dismiss them as the “liberal media,” which immediately renders all scrutiny feckless, but you also can turn their attacks on you back on them. He’s a narcissist. So fundamentally we’ve got to find ways to build organizations that aren’t necessarily the organizations that are for people at their work.
Elaine Schroeder has followed the pattern set forth by many in the Big Berg of Non Response to my written requests for details and information; nary a written nor spoken word about those sessions has been sent to me by Ms.
Spiro Agnew tried it more than 45 years ago with his“nattering nabobs of negativism” – those who had the audacity to criticize Nixon over his Vietnam policy.Sarah Palin tried it, too.
Just hope i can keep my nerves incheck when the time comes because i know i will be so nervous. It was philistine cultural warfare.Trump is making himself into the same kind of proxy, and he is likely to be far more successful than Palin, who was fighting to define herself at the same time the press was defining her.
Trump already is well defined — armed, locked and loaded to go after a critical press who are not really just attacking him but all those Americans who love him.
Dan Zak saw the irony of it all this week in his Washington Postprofile of Donald Trump’s sons. Schroeder might not have ever had any sessions with my daughter, Claire, prior to the date of her signature on the Affidavit.
A A  I haven't asked my daughter Claire about those alleged sessions, as I have continued to shelter her from being actively involved in this incredible series of events.A A  And I am not implying that Ms.
Make this a referendum about the media as well as about Clinton, and you up your chances to win.Criticizing Trump, then, is a potential trap, and the media are either going to walk right into it, or try to tiptoe past it.
Schroeder is lying about seeing my daughter Claire professionally, as her signed Affidavit states that she had, just not when.A  Of course, I disagree with much of the content of Ms. She loves for me to rub her big ole belly and she is still sleeping on her back, i have no idea how she manages to do that. I have everything ready for pups, just a few odds and ends i have to get, but pretty much set. Years of Republicans bashing you will do that.Ultimately, one suspects Donald Trump will be just as happy with the enmity as with the fawning. Im going to the goodwill store and pick up a few more blankets for her bed, so she will have plenty.
I set with her every night and love on her for an hour, she just lays her head in my lap and sleeps. More updates on Savannah later.            May 26, 2012             Savannah is still doing great. We need to recognize that there is no utility to this. You know, if you invent something and it makes you $10 billion, God bless you. She has been napping flat of her back, i told her to enjoy it now, because i doubt she will be able to do that in another week or two. She thought she had caught a chipmunk yesterday, but that chipmunk was a wee bit faster than Savannah. Poor thing set under the tree looking up for the longest time, i couldnt help but laugh at her. Still getting my supplies ready, almost done just a few more things to do. I know the puppies will be here before i know it, so im getting a jump on everything, so hopefully when the time comes i'll have everything ready so i can give Savannah all my attention, and not be running around like a chicken with no head LOL. I cant believe things are going so fast. I am starting to get her bedding together for her bed, and the other supplies that i will have on hand that i might need when she whelps. She will be starting on some puppy food in another 4 days, and a lil extra in her bowl at meal time. I am getting excited about the puppies, wondering what color they will be, since this is her first litter im also wondering how she will handle the whelping part. Grant, Attorney at Law, Juneau, AK From Wedding Bells to Tales to Tell: The Affidavit of Eric William Swanson, my former spouse AFFIDAVIT OF SHANNON MARIE MCCORMICK, My Former Best Friend THE AFFIDAVIT OF VALERIE BRITTINA ROSE, My daughter, aged 21 THE BEAGLE BRAYS! Ha, i have been in close contact with my dear friend who is helping to keep my nerves at bay, and giving me some really great info. I told her last night that when Savannah starts to having pups i will call her and she better put her clothes on and hit the road LOL. I have seen calves, horses, lambs, kittens and dogs born, but its a first for me and my girl savannah. My grandson helped me clean out the building Sunday, i believe he is getting excited about the pups to.
