Comments about these pages should be directed to: Mike Hill, RSCC Learning Center Director. This is what came to mind when I was browsing through my copy of MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers: Seventh Edition. I found a section with descriptions for formatting parenthetical notes (endnotes or footnotes) about cited sources.
If a parenthetical footnote is provided, then the footnotes box will appear here between the bibliographic and the in-text citations. It seems that when we are all overwhelmed by information, much of it from other people like us, it is note merely a courtesy to cite our sources, but it is a practical measure to justify and invite readers to judge our sources’ accuracy, reliability and validity. Leave only one space after periods or other punctuation marks (unless otherwise instructed by your instructor). In the upper left-hand corner of the first page, list your name, your instructor’s name, the course, and the date.
6.    Period are placed after the parenthetical citation, however question marks, commas, and exclamation points are placed within the quotation marks followed by a period after the parenthetical citation.
When a source has no known author, use a shortened title of the work instead of an author name.
You can use an online citation maker, but remember that it will only work if you type the correct information in the correct places, and that you capitalize correctly.
This is the "Chicago Style Guide" page of the "Chicago Style Guide for Upper School" guide. These links will take you to the NoodleTools Website where they have tutorials on using NoodleTools. At The Pennington School, we use Chicago Style as the format for crediting sources and formatting all written papers and assignments in the history classes.

NoodleTools provides an integrated system for note-taking, outlining, citation, research, and writing.
Footnotes should match with a superscript number at the end of the sentence referencing the source. Anything that is presented or spoken like speeches, lectures, personal interviews, performances, etc. You don't need to cite what would be considered common knowledge, such as facts, events, concepts, etc. The Pennington School community is based upon principles of honor, respect, and trust among students, faculty, and staff. As a Pennington student I represent the School, and I commit myself to living by the principles of this Honor Code in my academic work, my extracurricular activities, my social relationships, and my conduct in the community at large.
We should make it easy for our readers to check its appropriateness to the message of our writing. Indent the first line of a paragraph one half-inch (five spaces or press tab once) from the left margin.
Don’t underline your title or put it in quotation marks; write the title in Title Case, not in all capital letters. Remember to put quotation marks around the sentence(s) to remind you later that it is a direct quotation. Start the quotation on a new line, with the entire quote indented one inch from the left margin; maintain double-spacing. Place the title in quotation marks if it’s a short work, or italicize it if it’s a longer work. Use italics instead of underlining for titles of larger works (books, journals, newspapers, whole websites, movies, album titles).

Footnotes, which provide source information at the bottom of the page, allows the reader to focus on the evidence and not publication information about the evidence. Students should use NoodleTools to format their footnotes and "Bibliography" page unless otherwise instructed by their teacher.
If you copy and paste phrases from an article, you should put quotation marks around what you copied to remind yourself that it’s a direct quote. Only indent the first line of the quotation by a half inch if you are citing multiple paragraphs.
Generally, you want to provide the author’s name, publication title, publication information, date of publication, and page number(s) if it is the first time the source is being used. Any additional usage, simply use the author’s last name, publication title, and date of publication. If your quote is more than 4 lines long, you must indent the entire quote three times.  The quote is still double spaced. For example:Jenkins discusses the advantages to of fine arts in schools as a “method to teach children to thing critically and creatively”(qtd.
