In last week’s Jumuah special I shared some gems of advice on how to deal with stress and worries in Islam. Looking at the faces of our brothers and sisters in Syria, Gaza, and many more places, as they carry their lifeless children in their arms, begs the question: What is the difference between them and us?
When you ask them, most of these men, women, and even children say: We live with death on our doorstep. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala says, Wheresoever you may be, death will overtake you even if you are in a fortress built up strong and high. Allah says in Surah al Mulk, ayah 2: He who has created death as well as life, so that He might put you to a test which of you is best in conduct, and [make you realize that] He alone is almighty, truly forgiving. Here  the clear answer is this: life and death are a test to see who among us would strive to be the best in deeds.
This takes us to the following question: what are we doing in this life to prepare for a death that will lead us to an eternal life? Ibn al-Mubaarak said that Saalih Al-Mariy used to say, If the remembrance of death leaves me for an hour my heart becomes spoilt. Our ultimate goal is to be on such a level that when we die we know that we couldn’t have done more good deeds. So sitting back and being scared to die is not the way to remember death as the Prophet [saws] advised you.
We prepare for death by keeping our promises, by helping people in need, and by being good to our families.
Now look at yourself: are you often delaying your repentance and remaining unhappy with what you have?
If you often remember death you know this world is just temporary, so the problems of the world don’t get to you. If death is constantly on your mind your heart feels the need to be pure, so that you can meet Allah (swt) with a pure heart. Allah says: The day on which neither wealth nor sons will be of any use, except for whoever brings to Allah a sound heart. Qataadah said while commenting on this verse,  By Allah, he would not wish by this statement to go back to his family and wealth nor to collect the good things of this world and satisfy his desires.

I am a revert, subhan Allah, and I feel rather confused that some Muslims feel this way about others. I can understand and appreciate the feelings born Muslims have, and I sometimes have to remind myself not to envy their knowledge, their beautiful and strong families, their amazing and modest culture.

Instead of feeling jealous or envious of our brothers and sisters, we should be trying to teach them, inviting them to the beautifully magnificent teachings of the Quran and our beloved Prophet (saw).
It was said that the Prophet Muhammad (saw) said, No one should be jealous of anything except two people – a man whom Allah has blessed with knowledge and he teaches it; and a man who has money and he spends it in the sake of Allah. Those who were born Muslim and who are blessed to know Arabic, Quran, Hadith, and so much other beneficial Islamic knowledge should find a way to use their unique talents to share this gift with reverts who are struggling to learn. Wealth is not solely the amount of money or material things a person has; one can also be wealthy with knowledge.
It is We Who portion out between them their livelihood in this world, and We raised some of them above others in ranks, so that some may employ others in their work.
Deviating from Allah’s (swt) religion once it has been revealed to us is a great sin; may Allah (swt) keep us steadfast in His religion. Vanessa is studying Islam, health, and natural healing and prays to inspire the ummah by conveying the true message of Islam through her writing.
Assalamu alaikum sister, I am a revert too and I can’t say I have ever felt that anyone was jealous of me. After the recent tragic terrorist attacks in Paris, Dutch YouTube pranksters at Dit Is Normaal ran an intriguing social experiment: They bought a Bible, changed the cover to make the book appear to be a Quran, and then read shocking and gruesome passages from the Bible disguised as a Quran to people on the streets. But I excluded one tip— a tip from the Prophet [saws] himself to us, a tip that’s a true stress buster, a wake up call, and a great piece of productivity advice. We fear the unknown, and Allah (swt) made death a part of the unseen, a thing having to do with the soul, which remains a mystery to us.
This will happen only if you’re a believer who trusts in Allah and if your heart is humble before Him. The productive way to prepare is to make remembering death soften your hard heart, to make remembering death an inspiration for you to leave bad habits and let the thought of death motivate you to do the best you can. 032Kabul Finances Taliban Factions to Split Movement, Bring Peace Talks CloserAfghan authorities provide breakaway factions of Taliban movement with material and financial support in order to split the group and to engage some of its leaders in peace negotiations, according to The Wall Street Journal. I know that if other reverts feel as I do, there’s so much to learn that sometimes giving up seems easier. All of this uncertainty, anxiety, and jealousy comes only from Shaytan, trying to divide us and make us deviant.
Shouldn’t we all be joyous and exuberant about the growth of our creator’s most perfected religion? Reverts should look to those rich in knowledge, and together we can benefit by strengthening our imaan, increasing our deen, and most importantly obeying and pleasing Allah (swt).

Knowledge being the most important, Muslims who have been blessed with this gift must share this blessing for the sake of Allah.
We should not feel anything but happiness and humility when we learn of all the new Muslims around the world. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them— out of jealous animosity between themselves.
This is his mission, and we as Muslims have Allah (swt) who will lead us aright in times we are unsure, and protect us in times we are vulnerable.
Remember the meaning of the ayah of Surah al Mulk: life and death is a test to see who is best in deeds. How can we cure our hearts, minds, and souls and purify our intentions so that we may better serve one another as one ummah?
Remember that any single blessing Allah has given us He can take away, so benefit from your knowledge after death by teaching others so you start a cycle that will, in shaa allah, continue on. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah , then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account. If you are facing difficulty inside yourself, offer salah, read Quran, and trust Allah (swt).
Personally I ADORE reverts I have so much respect for you guys, how you sacrifice everything you’ve grown with for Allah SWT and I wish I had one as a friend, there are so many things I want to know, mainly tips for what to say to non-muslims so they will revert to inShaAllah, and of course it is Allah who guides. We struggle, trying to give up our old habits to avoid major sins, and are always worried and anxious about committing minor ones we’re not aware of. You might not have much money, but you always have knowledge so give, give, give and Allah (swt) will reward you for all of your efforts, in shaa Allah! Islam is beautiful, and whether you were born a Muslim, or embraced Islam in your twenties, forties, or even sixties, say alhamdulillah!
