The London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is getting a $500,000 boost from the Shoppers Drug Mart retail chain to treat chronic problems that affect many women. The money will be directed toward urogynecologic disorders such as urinary incontinence, which affects 20% of women, or prolapse (when an organ drops from its normal position,) which affects 50% of women who have given birth.
Beth Li, a Shoppers pharmacist-owner in downtown London, made the announcement, saying she’s aware of the incontinence problem because of the steady sales of related products.
The money will be used to develop a Continence Care Program at LHSC, including community outreach and education.
