SMO, or social media optimization, is the perfect marriage between search engine optimization (SEO) and social media. As a business in the Internet Age, you know you need them both, but how do you know they are working together? In order to determine which social media outlets and content will reach and resonate with patients, you must first understand the delivery mediums. Setting a clear marketing objective will act as a guide to ensure you derive value from your social media marketing efforts. The blog -- Adding a blog to your website gives your practice a simple way to share information, whether it's office news, photos, videos, or other information. Facebook -- Facebook has become an integral platform for all individuals to connect, and an effective platform for businesses to reach new and existing clients. Twitter -- Twitter is widely regarded as a powerful marketing tool, used to share quick and focused updates, connect with patients, learn from customers' past experiences, and connect with professional peers.
Even if it is not related to your dental practice, if it's interesting and relevant to patients, tweet it! Remember, keywords, site links, and intriguing content are the key ingredients of a great tweet. YouTube -- Despite being known as a video network first, YouTube is also the second largest search engine in the world, with 100 hours of video uploaded every minute and 4 billion videos viewed on a daily basis. Fresco of Approving of bylaw of Society of Jesus depicting Ignatius of Loyola receiving papal bull Regimini militantis Ecclesiae from Pope Paul 3. This group bound themselves by a vow of poverty and chastity, to "enter upon hospital and missionary work in Jerusalem, or to go without questioning wherever the pope might direct". They called themselves the Company of Jesus, and also Amigos En El Senor or "Friends in the Lord," because they felt "they were placed together by Christ." The name had echoes of the military (as in an infantry "company"), as well as of discipleship (the "companions" of Jesus). Chantal Detimmerman weeps at the funeral parlor as she spends a last few moments with her beloved Chico who has been prepared for cremation and laid out in a dog basket. Curled up as if asleep, with a garland of flowers around one paw, the Chihuahua is getting a high-class send-off at Animatrans, a funeral home that claims to be the first in Belgium to cater exclusively for pets. Arthur stares ahead with the same expression he has had for the past eight years, since he died and Waeles took him to Animatrans to be stuffed. Patrick Pendville set up the funeral service after seeing firsthand what animal disposal often looks, and smells, like.
Dropping a dead dog off at an animal rendering plant, a guard instructed him to unpack the carcass, remove its collar, and throw the body into a two-meter-high container swarming with flies, among other animal remains. Pendville says his company - which charges between $39 and $392 for a cremation - provides a humane way for people to say goodbye to animals they feel were part of the family. It is the last remaining relic of an ancient forest that stretched for millennia across the lowlands of Europe a shadowy, mossy woodland where bison and lynx roam beneath towering oak trees up to 600 years old. Conservationists believe the fate of the Bialowieza Forest, which straddles Poland and Belarus, is threatened due to a new Polish government plan for extensive logging in parts of the forest. Seven environmental groups, including Greenpeace and WWF, have lodged a complaint with the European Commission hoping to prevent the large-scale felling of trees, which is due to begin within days.
The preservation of Bialowieza is such a sensitive matter that IKEA, which relies on Polish timber for 25 percent of its global furniture production, vowed years ago not to buy any wood from Bialowieza. The forest plan is one of many controversial changes that have come with the election last year of a conservative populist party, Law and Justice. The party's leader, Jaroslaw Kaczynski, says he's on a mission to remake the country from top to bottom in line with the party's conservative ideology.
In the case of Bialowieza, government officials are blaming their predecessors for financial losses from the strict limits on logging. About 35 percent of the forest on the Polish side includes a national park and reserves, strictly protected zones that the government does not plan to touch.
About half of the forest is still considered pristine, meaning those areas have never faced significant intervention since the forest's formation some 8,000 to 9,000 years ago after the end of the last ice age. That so much has survived is thanks to past Polish and Lithuanian monarchs and Russian czars, who kept it as a royal hunting preserve. Szyszko last week dismissed 32 of 39 scientific experts on the State Council for Nature Conservation after they criticized the logging plan. They have since been replaced by people who mainly come from the forestry and hunting sectors that favor greater wood extraction. Some 30 climbers have developed frostbite or become sick near the summit of Mount Qomolangma, an official said on Sunday, after two deaths from apparent altitude sickness in recent days highlighted the risks on the world's highest mountain.
Most of the sick climbers suffered frostbite while attempting to reach the summit or on their descent, Mountaineering Department official Gyanendra Shrestha said.
Several Sherpa guides carried one sick climber from the highest camp, at nearly 8,000 meters, to camp two, at 6,400 meters, where attempts are being made to pick her up with a helicopter, said Pemba Sherpa of the Seven Summit Treks agency in Kathmandu. A Norwegian woman, 45-year-old Siv Harstad, suffered snow blindness and was helped down from the summit on Saturday, the Norwegian news agency NTB said. More details were not available because of communication difficulties on the 8,850-meter mountain. The two deaths were the first confirmed this year on Qomolangma during a busy climbing season that follows two years in which the peak was virtually empty due to two fatal avalanches. Eric Arnold, 35, had enough bottled oxygen with him, as well as climbing partners, but he complained of getting weak and died on Friday night near South Col before he was able to get to a lower altitude, Phurba said. Just hours after Arnold died, Australian climber Maria Strydom also showed signs of altitude sickness on Saturday afternoon before she died, Phurba said. Arnold was from Rotterdam, according to his Twitter account, which was updated on Friday with a post that he had reached the summit on his fifth try. In an interview earlier this year with RTV Rijnmond, Arnold noted that the risks of climbing the world's highest peak did not end at the summit. Sri Lankan soldiers pulled more bodies from landslides and distributed food and water to hundreds of thousands of residents camped in shelters on Sunday after major floods hit the island.
Floodwaters were receding in the capital Colombo after the heaviest rains in a quarter of a century pounded the island since last weekend, triggering landslides that have buried victims in tonnes of mud. Soldiers and other rescuers discovered 13 more bodies late on Saturday in the worst-hit district of Kegalle, about 100 kilometers northeast of Colombo, where two villages were destroyed last week.
More than 80 people are known to have died so far across the island amid fears the number could rise - with 118 people still listed as missing. Sri Lanka was receiving international aid for more than half a million people forced to flee their homes across the island. Soldiers joined relief workers in distributing essential supplies to around 300,000 people sheltering in state-run centers, Kodippili said. After bursting its banks last week, the Kelani river running through Colombo was receding slowly.
Rain has eased since Cyclone Roanu moved away from Sri Lanka to hit southern Bangladesh overnight, leaving at least 24 people dead there before weakening.
President Maithripala Sirisena has called on Sri Lankans to provide shelter and give cash or essential supplies to its flood victims. The appeal prompted huge numbers to donate food and clothing, according to Disaster Management Center officials. Nudists have lost a seven-year legal battle for access to a popular tourist resort beach on Spain's southwestern tip. The Supreme Court rejected an appeal by the Spanish Federation of Naturism against local government legislation prohibiting nudists to use beaches within the historic port city of Cadiz. The court disagreed, saying in a ruling on Friday that local authorities of Cadiz had the power to "manage properly the use of its services, equipment, infrastructure, facilities and public spaces".
The ruling applies to the beaches that fringe the ancient city but nudists are permitted to use a beach outside city limits.
The federation had argued that Cadiz's city council had tried to roll back "the social progress" Spain had made in recent decades by allowing nude beachgoers to be fined up to $840.
Cadiz became one of Spain's wealthiest cities and was among the world's busiest ports when it got the monopoly for trade with the New World after Christopher Columbus' arrival in the Americas. Spain also gained a reputation as an easygoing beach and resort destination in the 1950s after the mayor of Benidorm asked the government to stop police from harassing and issuing fines to women for wearing bikinis on the town's beaches. The death toll in the eruption of a volcano in western Indonesia rose to seven on Sunday, with two other people in critical condition, as an official warned of more eruptions. Mount Sinabung in North Sumatra province blasted volcanic ash as high as 3 kilometers into the sky on Saturday, said National Disaster Management Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho. All the victims of the eruption were working on their farms in the village of Gamber, about 4 kilometers away from the slope, or within the danger area.
Photos taken on Sunday showed evidence of pyroclastic flows - a fast-moving cloud of hot volcanic gases, rocks and ash - in the village.
Nata Nail, an official at the local Disaster Management Agency, said a man died on Sunday at a hospital, leaving two other victims in critical condition. Rescuers including soldiers, police, and personnel from disaster combating agencies, as well as volunteers and villagers, halted search operations around the area after they found there were no more victims or villagers inside the danger zone, Nail said.
Earlier on Sunday, security personnel blocked some villagers who wanted to enter the village to take their abandoned belongings. Nugroho warned of more potential eruptions, with volcanic activity still high at the mountain. Mount Sinabung had been dormant for four centuries before reviving in 2010, killing two people.
Sinabung is among more than 120 active volcanoes in Indonesia, which is prone to seismic upheaval due to its location on the Pacific "Ring of Fire," an arc of volcanoes and fault lines encircling the Pacific Basin. Jai Whitelaw was 10 when he first took medical cannabis, given to him by his mother in a bid to treat the debilitating epilepsy that saw him endure up to 500 seizures a day. Faced with the stark choice of breaking the law in the hope of soothing his chronic pain, or denying him possible relief, Michelle Whitelaw reached breaking point.
At his lowest point Jai had to be resuscitated, was unable to write or read at school or even play outdoors as he struggled with fits and the side-effects of pharmaceutical medications.
In the 15 months since he began medicinal cannabis, which he takes in liquid form, he has had only four seizures. While recreational cannabis is drawn from the whole plant, therapeutic forms are derived from extracting particular types of cannabinoids - molecules that are found in cannabis - from the plant.
Therapeutic use is legal in several US states and other nations including Canada, Israel and the Netherlands. Support for the practice has grown in Australia in recent years, with 91 percent in favor of legalizing it for the seriously ill, according to a 2015 Roy Morgan poll. In response, New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria states are changing their regulations and performing trials of the drug on severely ill patients, with two states setting up cannabis farms. The legislative shift is a vindication for people such as Aboriginal Australian Tony Bower, who has long given cannabis in oil and alcohol forms for free to parents of ill children after working out how to develop non-psychotropic medication from the plant.
About 150 children are his regular patients, and his drug is set to reach more people after Anthony Coffey's Australian Organic Therapeutic firm obtained rights to it.
Tony Bower has long given cannabis in oil and alcohol forms for free to parents of ill children after working out how to develop non-psychotropic medication from the plant. Afghanistan's spy agency said on Sunday Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansour was killed in a US bombing raid, the first confirmation from officials of his death, which marks a potential blow to the resurgent militant movement. The Taliban have not commented officially on the very rare US drone attack deep inside Pakistan on Saturday, authorized by President Barack Obama, which could scupper any immediate prospect of peace talks. The apparent elimination of Mansour, who had consolidated power following a bitter Taliban leadership struggle over the past year, could also spark new succession battles within the fractious movement. US officials on Saturday said Mansour was "likely killed" in the remote Pakistani town of Ahmad Wal in Balochistan province by multiple unmanned aircraft operated by US special forces. Two Pakistani intelligence officials told AFP the drones struck a Toyota Corolla near the city of Quetta, killing two people whose bodies were burned beyond recognition. They did not confirm whether Mansour was among them but said the bodies had been moved to a hospital in Quetta. A member of the Quetta Shura, the Taliban's leadership council, told AFP that Mansour had been unreachable on his mobile phone since Saturday night. Mansour was formally appointed head of the Taliban in July last year following the revelation that the group's founder Mullah Omar had been dead for two years.
The group saw a resurgence under the firebrand supremo with striking military victories, helping to cement his authority by burnishing his credentials as a commander.
The Taliban briefly captured the strategic northern city of Kunduz last September in their most spectacular victory in 14 years. For the first time since World War II, a right-wing politician could win Sunday's election for the Austrian presidency as established parties that have dominated postwar politics watch from the sidelines. Candidates backed by the dominant Social Democratic and centrist People's Party were eliminated in last month's first round, which means neither will become president for the first time since the end of the war.
That reflects deep disillusionment with the political status quo and their approach to the migrant crisis and other issues. As voting got underway on Sunday, the contest was too close to call between Norbert Hofer of the right-wing Euroskeptic Freedom Party and Greens Party politician Alexander Van der Bellen, who is running as an independent.
Both men drew clear lines between themselves and their rival as they went into Sunday's race. At his final rally on Friday, Van der Bellen said he was for "an open, Europe-friendly, Europe-conscious Austria" - an indirect contrast to what Hofer is offering. The elections are reverberating beyond Austria's borders, with a Hofer win being viewed by European parties of all political stripes as evidence of a further advance of populist Euroskeptic parties at the expense of the establishment. In Austria, such a result could upend decades of business-as-usual politics, with both men serving notice they are not satisfied with the ceremonial role most predecessors have settled for. Van der Bellen says he would not swear in a Freedom Party chancellor even if that party wins the next elections, scheduled within the next two years. Presidential candidate Norbert Hofer of the Austrian Freedom Party poses as he casts his ballot at the polling station in his hometown Pinkafeld, Austria, on Sunday.
Starting on Saturday, Bolivian transsexuals aged over 18 can change their name, gender and photo in all public and private documents after the Gender Identity Law was signed into law.
Justice Minister Virginia Velasco said the law conforms to the State Political Constitution, which recognizes the rights of every Bolivian and highlights diversity among its people. The signing ceremony was held after the houses of legislature passed the bill on Thursday and Friday. Transgender people will still need to undergo a psychological examination prior to legally changing their identity, while transsexuals will require a medical certificate that verifies their sex change.
Laura Alvarez, national president of Bolivia's transgender, lesbian, gay and bisexual organization, said earlier this week that the bill will benefit some 1,500 members whose legal documents do not reflect their sex change.
Police say five people were severely injured in violent clashes between Iraqi-Yazidi and Chechen asylum-seekers in the central German city of Bielefeld. Thousands of Bangladeshis were left homeless on Sunday after Cyclone Roanu battered the impoverished southern coastal region, ripping apart flimsy houses and killing at least 24 people. Turkey's ruling party held a special convention on Sunday to confirm a longtime ally of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as its new chairman and next prime minister, a move that is likely to consolidate the Turkish leader's hold on power. Yemeni troops killed 13 militants in a raid on a house outside the southern city of Mukalla on Sunday in which two soldiers also died, the army said, extending a struggle to restore security in the area ruled until last month by al-Qaida. Voters went to the polls across Vietnam on Sunday to elect 500 deputies to the country's National Assembly, from a total of 870 candidates running for election. A guitar given to Elvis Presley by his father in 1969 went under the hammer for $334,000 in New York during an auction that also saw a Michael Jackson vest fetch $256,000.
Vernon Presley is said to have changed the finish of the Gibson Dove acoustic guitar to ebony after his son earned his black belt in karate. During a 1975 concert in Asheville, North Carolina, Presley had given the guitar to fan Mike Harris, who had kept it until now.
Another highlight of the auction was a red neoprene vinyl jacket created by Dennis Tompkins and Michael Bush for Michael Jackson to wear during the 1996-97 HIStory world tour. The highest bid reached $354,400, for John Lennon's handwritten lyrics to Beatles song Being for the Benefit of Mr. Egyptian air and naval forces have found some of the passengers' "personal belongings" and debris of EgyptAir Flight MS804, which crashed while carrying 66 passengers and crew from Paris to Cairo, the army said on Friday.

The debris was found around 280 kilometers north of the port city of Alexandria, Egyptian army spokesman Mohammed Samir said in a statement posted on his Facebook page.
A team of Egyptian investigators led by Ayman el-Mokadam - along with French and British investigators and an expert from Airbus - will inspect what the army has found, Egyptian officials said. The plane fell off the radar at 2:45 am local time on Thursday while it was crossing the Mediterranean sea.
The office of Egypt's president, Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi, issued a statement expressing its condolences to the relatives of the 66 killed.
The statement marked the first official recognition by Egypt's government that the missing plane had crashed.
France, Greece, Italy, Cyprus and the United Kingdom had all joined the Egyptian search effort, Egypt's defense ministry said. The Greek Defense Minister Panos Kammenos said that the plane swerved wildly before plummeting into the sea. Yet France's foreign minister Jean-Marc Ayrault asserted on Friday that there is "absolutely no indication" of what caused the crash. The junior minister for transport, Alain Vidalies, said that "no theory is favored" at this stage and urged "the greatest caution". Amid fears the plane was downed by an extremist attack, Vidalies defended security at Paris's Charles de Gaulle Airport, saying staff badges are revoked if there is the slightest security doubt. Families of the victims spent the night in a hotel in Cairo while they awaited the news of their loved ones.
Protesters stage a rally outside Kadena Air Base in Okinawa after a US citizen working on a US military base was arrested. A male civilian working for the US military arrested for dumping the corpse of a Japanese woman in her twenties admitted to strangling her, local police officials said on Friday, sparking a torrent of fury from the Japanese government toward the United States just one week before US President Barack Obama is scheduled to make a visit to Hiroshima. Police arrested 32-year-old Kenneth Franklin Shinzato, a former US Marine on Thursday, following evidence leading them to find he had dumped the dead body of 20-year-old Rina Shimabukuro in a forested area on the night of April 28 or in the early hours of the morning thereafter. Shimabukuro, a company employee working in Uruma city, went missing on April 28 after going for a walk, with the official filing of her disappearance being made the following day to the police by her boyfriend. The former Marine was subsequently questioned by the police as he was potentially in the same area as Shimabukuro according to GPS data triangulated from her phone and based on traffic records. Police later identified a body as being that of the missing woman through her dental and DNA records. Shinzato, who works at the US Air Force's Kadena Air Base and lives with his wife and child, admitted to the police he dumped the corpse in the wooded area after she stopped moving and that he had in fact strangled her. The latest case follows a US Navy sailor being arrested in March suspected of raping a woman in a hotel in Naha City, the capital of Okinawa. The latest murder and previous attacks have led to strong condemnation from the people of Okinawa and has seen instances of growing anti-US sentiment on the island amid a growing spat between the central government and prefectural officials about a plan to relocate a controversial US base within the island. Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said on Friday that he will bring up the case with US President Barack Obama, with the issue potentially clouding the Group of Seven leaders' summit to be held in Japan next week. The heaviest rains in a quarter of a century have pounded the island since last weekend, sparking huge landslides that have buried victims in up to 15 meters of mud. Officials have urged those living in affected areas to leave immediately, with more than 60 people known to have died so far and fears that number could spike with many more reported missing. Housewife Diluka Ishani said she, her husband and two children were marooned on high ground and were plucked to safety by the navy and brought to a nearby school.
Around 30 families were camped out at the school where the military were providing food and drinking water. President Maithripala Sirisena urged citizens to help with caring for nearly half a million people affected by floods in many parts of the island. Large parts of Colombo were evacuated overnight in an operation led by the military, involving boats and helicopters. The national Disaster Management Centre said 21 of Sri Lanka's 25 districts had been affected.
Three people have been killed in flood-related incidents in Colombo but the national toll now stands at 63. The district of Kegalle, about 100 kilometers northeast of Colombo, has been worst-hit, with the toll from two separate landslides rising to 34 after troops pulled another body from the mud overnight.
A police officer in the area said 144 people, including 37 children, had been reported missing since the landslides on Tuesday evening. Netanyahu and Yaalon have clashed in recent days over the role of the military in public discourse, with the prime minister arguing that military officials should not discuss policy matters publicly. Tensions between Yaalon and Netanyahu escalated in March, when military leaders criticized a soldier who was caught on video fatally shooting an already-wounded Palestinian attacker. Reports over the past few days indicate that Netanyahu intends to appoint former foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman to the post. Netanyahu this week invited Lieberman's Yisrael Beteinu party to shore up his shaky parliamentary coalition and negotiation teams have been meeting to hammer out the details of their alliance. Cabinet Minister Gila Gamliel said that Yaalon's leaving is a "tremendous loss" for the ruling Likud party. Frescoed barracks which once housed the cavalry of the Emperor Hadrian's bodyguard have returned to light 19 centuries on, during excavations for a new underground train line in Rome. In a find hailed as "unique" by archaeologists, weapons rooms, dormitories, kitchens and stables where some of ancient Rome's crack troops once lodged now lie open to the sky near the Colosseum, where the "Amba Aradam" stop of the Metro C line is being dug. Uncovering broken pots, Roman coins or that archaeological staple, a series of low walls, is all in a day's work for head engineer Andrea Sciotti, particularly near the ancient forums and gladiator battling ground and training schools. Work here is steaming ahead to create the first "archaeological station" in Rome, which Francesco Prosperetti, the capital's superintendent of archaeology, hopes will outdo other impressive metro "museums" from Athens to Naples, Porto and Vienna. The digs for Rome's much-needed third metro line, which will connect 30 stations in the tourist-heavy Eternal City, began in 2007 but have been delayed repeatedly by the discovery of buried artefacts and it is not expected to be fully open before 2021.
Amid the diggers and scaffolding lie the remains of 39 rooms of barracks where hundreds of soldiers - the so-called equites singulares augusti, one of the elite corps of the Praetorian Guard - were housed during the 2nd century AD. Archaeologists also found a collective grave on the site, where they have so far unearthed 13 adult skeletons and a bronze bracelet.
The cavalry guard, which escorted the Roman emperor whenever he left the city, were so fierce they were used by successive leaders to quash unruly mobs in street battles and boost military campaigns abroad.
Black and white mosaics decorate the barracks floors, and frescoes in Pompeian red can be seen on some of the remaining walls. The find brings the total number of known military garrisons in the area to five, with one of the most important resting under the nearby Saint John Lateran basilica, the pope's seat in Rome. An Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research poll released on Friday said 72 percent support paid family leave. At least 19 states are considering paid family leave laws, but only three have active programs.
The federal Family and Medical Leave Act provides for up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for most workers to care for a newborn or adopted child or a spouse, child or parent who is seriously ill. A bill to make that leave paid was introduced in the Senate last year but has gone nowhere in Congress. Morelli, 52, said she expects that someday she'll need time off to care for her aging mother and in-laws who are now in their 80s.
After years of Chinese fans' hearts melting for Korean TV drama stars, Chinese shows have become hot items in South Korea.
In October, when the 54-episode Chinese historical drama Nirvana in Fire was aired in South Korea, with Korean subtitles, it became a buzz word on South Korea's social media, People's Daily reported. Nirvana in Fire, set in 6th-century China, tells of the tale of a protagonist's quest for justice and to erase a family blemish. The series was shown on Chunghwa TV based in Seoul and got the sixth-highest rating among South Korean cable channels, also ranking for a time seventh in pay-to-view dramas online. Amid the many high-quality South Korean dramas, it's rare for a foreign production to squeeze into the top 10. He also said Scarlet Heart, a 2011 production on Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) royal families, and The Empress of China, on the early years China's only female monarch, of Wu Zetian (624-705), are highly welcomed series from China. The Empress of China, which is still on air, ranked the 4th among the country's cable TV in terms of rating.
Hopes faded on Thursday for the survival of about 150 people trapped under the mud and rubble of two landslides in Sri Lanka, as heavy rain hampered rescue operations and the official death toll from the disaster rose to 41. Rescue work had resumed early in morning before fresh rains began, but was halted for about an hour as minor landslides made the work dangerous. That figure is likely to rise sharply, as authorities battling muddy conditions began to give up hope of reaching 134 people believed to be trapped under rubble at one site, and 16 at another, before time ran out. Military spokesman Brigadier Jayanath Jayaweera said in the capital Colombo that the army was assessing the situation and would deploy more troops if needed. Heavy rains have lashed the island nation for several days and officials said the extent of the tragedy was still unclear.
Jayaweera said that the army had so far rescued 156 people trapped by landslides and more than 1,550 people are being sheltered in nine shelters.
Heavy fog, rain, electrical outages and the loose ground have made it difficult to search for survivors. Villagers said torrents of muddy water, tree branches and debris came crashing down on Tuesday around their homes in the three villages in Kegalle district, about 70 kilometers north of Colombo. Near the village of Elangapitiya - furthest down the hill - soldiers on Wednesday carried bodies to a school, where families waited for news of missing loved ones.
Farmer Hewapelige Lal said he had identified the body of his nephew, but that 18 other family members were possibly buried under the mud.
During heavy rains in December 2014, authorities evacuated more than 60,000 people from thousands of homes damaged or destroyed by floods or landslides. A Nigerian schoolgirl rescued after two years of being held captive by Boko Haram militants will meet with President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday amid hopes that she can help shed light on the whereabouts of more than 200 other missing girls.
Soldiers working with a civilian patrol group rescued the girl, named Amina Ali Darsha Nkeki, on Tuesday near Damboa in the remote northeast with officials confirming she was one of 219 girls abducted from a secondary school in Chibok. An army spokesman said she was found with her four-month old baby and a "suspected Boko Haram terrorist" called Mohammed Hayatu, who claimed to be the girl's husband, was also detained. Her mother in an interview last year said Ali's father had died some months after her daughter was kidnapped with the stress taking a toll on his health. Presidential spokesman Garba Shehu told Reuters that the girl is currently in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state, but will be brought to the national capital Abuja to meet Buhari.
Ali's rescue should give a boost to Buhari, a former military ruler who made crushing the Boko Haram Islamist insurgency a pillar of his presidential campaign in 2015.
Boko Haram captured 276 girls from a school in Chibok, northeast Nigeria, in April 2014, as part of a seven-year-old insurgency to set up an Islamic state in the north which has killed some 15,000 people and displaced more than 2 million. Some girls escaped in the melee but parents of the remaining missing girls accused former President Goodluck Jonathan, Nigeria's then leader, of not doing enough to find their daughters whose disappearance sparked a global "Bring Back Our Girls" campaign.
Ali's mother, Binta Ali Nkeki, last year spoke of her daughter's fear of Boko Haram but of her enjoyment of attending school and doing well at her studies. Her mother told the Murtala Muhammed Foundation, a Nigerian nonprofit organization researching a book on the missing Chibok girls, that she was not sure of the age of Ali, the youngest of her 13 children although only three survived their early years. Protesters in Paris and elsewhere alleged the police have instigated the violence during a series of demonstrations against a controversial labor reform. Cadot told a news conference that about 15 protesters, some masked, attacked the car and threw a Molotov cocktail at it, setting it alight.
Vanina Giudicelli, one of the protesters at the Republique, said the police gathering was "a real provocation".
Jean-Claude Delage, secretary-general of the Alliance police union, denounced an "escalation of violence" in the labor protests and said some people were harassing police officers with projectiles and Molotov cocktails and even hitting them with bars. French President Francois Hollande said on Tuesday that more than 350 police officers have been injured in clashes and 60 people have been convicted amid the labor reform protests. A police car was set on fire by protesters in Paris on Wednesday, injuring two officers who were in the vehicle. That train - called "Jaldoot" or the Messenger of Water - brings millions of liters of the precious liquid that the drought-plagued central Indian district so desperately needs.
Latur, with its ravaged farmland and thirsty families, has become the unfortunate poster child for the blistering drought that is hurting tens of millions of people across 13 Indian states.
With the monsoon rains still at least a month away, the water train, which started running in April, is a desperate measure to ease a desperate situation. Nowhere is the tragedy more heartbreaking than in the stoic silence of 30-year-old Ranjana Umesh Jadav, whose husband fell into a well several kilometers from his home and died as he tried to fetch water for his family after their taps and the village well ran dry. As Marathwada's crisis worsened over the last two years the state government decided to start sending a water train.
A medieval step well next to the Miraj train station serves as the filling point for the water train.
Mixed Martial Arts is trying to shrug off its image as an ultraviolent, inhuman and even degrading sport in France, where it is banned for pros but loved by amateurs. Combining elements from boxing, judo, karate and wrestling, MMA is allowed across Europe except in France and Norway. It is played barefoot and without a helmet, while hands are protected only with fingerless gloves. Despite the ban, the discipline has proved irresistible to tens of thousands of amateurs in France.
At age 24, he became one of the only French professionals to compete in the premier Ultimate Fighting Championship in the United States, having trained in his home country but able only to compete abroad. The rules, which are internationally standardized, do allow contestants to be hit, even in the head, when they are on the mat. A player can win through a knockout blow, submission - locking the opponent in one of many types of holds - or a referee's decision. The octagonal "cage" in which the fighting is held is designed to protect contestants - and spectators - when they are thrown. Matthieu Quidu, a sports professor at Lyon's Ecole Normale Superieure, a prestigious university, has begun attracting more and more enthusiasts to his MMA class. But the results, published in The Lancet Psychiatry peer-reviewed medical journal, were encouraging enough to merit further trials, he said. All of the subjects had tried at least two standard drug treatments without success, and most had also undergone psychotherapy. Clinical depression is a debilitating disease that affects tens of millions of people worldwide.
Antidepressants and talk therapy don't work for about one in five patients, highlighting the need for alternate treatments. Psilocybin stimulates receptors for serotonin, a naturally occurring chemical in the brain that affects mood. In the experiment, Carhart-Harris and colleagues gave two doses of psilocybin, a week apart, to six men and six women suffering moderate to severe depression. They all reported mild nervousness as the drug took hold within 30 to 60 minutes, but there were no serious side-effects.
Each session lasted six hours - with "peaking" occurring half way through - and was monitored by two psychiatrists. After three months, seven of the patients continued to show improvement, and five were still in remission.
These results "are promising but not completely compelling," commented Philip Cowen, a clinical scientist and professor at the University of Oxford. Given the small number of subjects and lack of a control group, "it is impossible to attribute clinical efficacy to the drug," said Jonathan Flint, a professor of neuroscience at the University of Oxford. Kenya's authorities tore down a badly built residential block in a poor Nairobi district on Tuesday, one of more than 250 shoddy buildings that could now face demolition after a six-story structure collapsed this month killing 51 people. Nearby, residents of another condemned block in Mathare scrambled to wrap up utensils and other items in bed sheets and stuffed plastic bags with clothes as workers ripped out door and window frames to prepare for machinery to destroy the structure. The Kenyan authorities have identified 258 buildings considered structurally at risk and which could be pulled down, leaving thousands of people to find new homes in a city already struggling to keep pace with its growing population.
Kenyan authorities are stepping up evictions of poorly built buildings after a six-storey block in Huruma district - which lies next to Mathare - collapsed on April 29 after days of rain.
Officials said it had been condemned before it crumbled and said it was not clear why it had not been pulled down.
The death toll of 51 people could have been more if some residents had not seen cracks and fled shortly before it fell. Yet knocking down dangerous buildings also adds to the housing shortage in Nairobi, which is estimated to have a population of more than 4 million, almost double 15 years ago.
Keeping pace with housing for a growing population is a challenge afflicting cities across Africa, where millions of people every year are leaving the fields and pouring into cities to find jobs, spawning spontaneous and ill-planned new suburbs.
In Nigeria's sprawling commercial hub, Lagos, a church hostel collapse in 2014 crushed 115 people.
In Cairo, builders often pile new floors onto existing structures with little planning or reinforcement of foundations, making collapses a fairly frequent event.
Of the 10 million people added to Africa's urban population each year, about two thirds end up in slums, according to UN Habitat, which held a meeting in March in Nigeria about ways to improve living conditions in Africa's slums.

A man stands in a dilapidated building slated for demolition in the Mathare neighborhood of Nairobi, Kenya, on Tuesday. Health Minister Alejandro Gaviria's remarks in an interview on Tuesday are the strongest yet in an increasingly public fight with the world's biggest drugmaker that could set a precedent for middle-income countries grappling to contain rising prices for complex drugs.
Memos leaked last week to a nonprofit group, written from the Colombian Embassy in Washington, describe intense lobbying pressure on Colombia, a staunch US ally, from the pharmaceutical industry and its allies in the US Congress. In one memo, the embassy warns that breaking Novartis' patent for the leukemia drug Gleevec could hurt US support for Colombia's bid to join the proposed Trans-Pacific Partnership trade zone and even jeopardize $450 million in US assistance for a peace deal with leftist rebels. Gaviria, an economist by training, said the pressure shows the forceful steps that the pharmaceutical industry is willing to take to protect its commercial interests. Government health programs in many countries are being squeezed by high prices for newly launched drugs and by annual price hikes of 10 percent or more for medicines long on the market, and they are increasingly pushing back by demanding big discounts or setting price caps on ultraexpensive drugs. Novartis has rejected Gaviria's proposal to reduce the price for Gleevec to 140 pesos (5 US cents) per milligram. In an April 20 letter, Novartis' local affiliate said that it doesn't consider it convenient to initiate negotiations over prices and that the decision to override patents should be taken only in exceptional circumstances and not used as a bargaining tool. Same sex marriage is currently permitted in Mexico City, as well as in several states including Coahuila, Quintana Roo, Jalisco, Nayarit, Chihuahua and Sonora. Mexico's Supreme Court said last year that laws restricting marriage to a man and woman were unconstitutional and a Supreme Court judge urged states to legalize gay marriage. However, many state legislatures have not changed their statutes to comply, meaning couples must file legal challenges case by case to get married. The president's office asked Congress to change Mexico's constitution to guarantee adults the right to marry without restrictions based on gender, sexual preference, or other reasons.
Both the presidency and Pena Nieto's Twitter avatars were overlaid with the rainbow flag of gay pride to mark the international day against homophobia and transphobia. Grappling with deadly drug cartel violence, Pena Nieto last month sent a proposal to Congress to permit the use and importation of marijuana-based medicines. The company also makes death masks, casting an impression of an animal's face in long-lasting resin. Pets are getting a high-class send-off at Animatrans, a funeral home that claims to be the first in Belgium to cater exclusively for pets.
The plan has pitted the government against environmentalists and many scientists, who are fighting to save the UNESCO world heritage site. Bialowieza has been declared a Natura 2000 site, meaning it is a protected area under European law. Since taking power in November, Poland's government has moved quickly to push broad changes in everything from cultural institutions to horse breeding farms and forestry management. The environment minister, Jan Szyszko, also faulted them for getting the UNESCO world heritage designation, which brings some international oversight.
Officials argue the planned logging is not harmful because it will take part only in "managed" parts of the forest that have already been subject to logging in the past.
That has left it with a complex diversity of species unknown in the second-growth forests elsewhere in Europe's lowlands. They council's new leader, Wanda Olech-Piasecka, also supports limited commercial hunting of bison, an endangered species.
Favorable weather has allowed nearly 400 climbers to reach the summit from Nepal since May 11, but the altitude, weather and harsh terrain can cause problems at any time. Seema Goshwami of India had frostbite to her hands and feet at the South Col camp and was unable to move.
It was undecided when and if their bodies would be brought down from the high altitude and it would depend on the team and family members, Pasang Phurba of the Seven Summits agency said. But some 200,000 people living in low-lying areas of the capital were still unable to return home, he said.
The federation had argued that nudism could be considered a fundamental right to freedom of ideology as defended by Spain's constitution.
Gold and silver from Spain's empire flowed though Cadiz's docks, turning the city into the architectural gem that tourists flock to visit today.
Dead and injured animals were lying on the ground, around them scorched homes and smoky vegetation. Now, almost two years on, things are set to change as Australia brings in new laws allowing the drug to be used for medical purposes.
While recreational use remains illegal, laws were passed in February permitting it for medical purposes, in a move Health Minister Sussan Ley said meant "genuine patients are no longer treated as criminals". I'm an indigenous Australian, it's not in our culture," said Bower, explaining why he continued to supply families despite the legal risks, which once saw him spend six weeks in jail.
The southern opium-rich province of Helmand is also almost entirely under insurgent control.
Hofer, in turn, used his last pre-election gathering to deliver a message with anti-Muslim overtones. What has happened till now is that this group has become visible and has claimed its rights. Police said in a statement on Sunday the religious minority group and the Chechens were living in the same refugee shelter and went after each other with truncheons and knives on Saturday night. The storm on Saturday ploughed through low-lying villages in the Chittagong and Barisal regions, where residents described seeing meters-high walls of water that caught some unaware. Binali Yildirim, the transport and communications minister, is set to replace Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. Among the candidates, 339 are women, accounting for 39 percent, while 97 candidates are not members of the ruling Communist Party of Vietnam, according to figures released by the country's National Election Council. Neither did Stevie Ray Vaughan's Fender Broadcaster electric guitar, valued at $400,000 to $600,000. Egyptian jets and naval vessels continued to search for further debris from the downed Airbus 320, he said. They spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the press. It said the presidency "expressed its deep regret and sadness for the victims" of the flight. The country's aviation minister Sherif Fathi said the likelihood the plane was brought down by a terror attack is "higher than the possibility of a technical failure". Egyptian officials said some of them arrived from Paris late on Thursday, among them eight relatives of the 15 French passengers on board the missing jet. Around 300,000 people had been moved to safe shelters while a further 200,000 were staying with friends or family. There were sporadic showers in Colombo on Friday, with heavier downpours to the north of the capital that officials said would further swell the Kelani.
She told Israel Radio she believes it was a "mistake" not to offer Yaalon another position and keep him in the coalition. The emotion crept up upon us," he said over the noise of concrete-mixers and drills, marvelling at the excellent state of preservation of the vast site which covers 900 square meters.

Among the presidential candidates, both Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders have voiced support for paid family leave. He starred in the TV seriesi??Descendants of the Sun, which has attracted a huge audience in China. Torrents of water streamed down the hill on which the three villages of Siripura, Elangapitiya or Pallebage were located at different elevations. Officials have also warned that, with rain still falling, more landslides could occur in the area. He and his wife had left their home to take fruit to a daughter who lived elsewhere, but at some point his wife turned back.
Much of Sri Lanka has been deforested to clear land for agriculture, leaving the countryside exposed. Two months before that, dozens of tea plantation workers were killed when mudslides buried their hillside homes. So it's very complicated for police forces to isolate and arrest them," Delage said on BFM television.
It's the main city in Maharashtra state's Marathwada region, where three districts - Beed, Latur and Osmanabad - have been devastated by two consecutive droughts. Crops have failed, cattle are wasting away and long, scorching walks in search of drinking water have resulted in dozens of deaths. Sitting with her two young children, she stares silently as older female relative explained her husband's death to visiting journalists.
The landlocked area has historically been drought-prone, but decades of environmental degradation and the lack of a water management plan have pushed the region to the brink. The city of Miraj, about 340 kilometers west of Latur, was chosen as the place to source water for the thirsty Marathwada region. According to local legend, the well never runs dry, but for the purpose of filling the wagons that transport water to Latur, kilometers of plastic pipes have been laid out from the Krishna River.
The containers, which once carried petroleum products or vegetable oil, were chemically treated and steam-cleaned before being freshly painted for their new cargo at a railway yard in the western state of Rajasthan.
You leave the session feeling serene and calm," the 35-year-old said after sparring with Adams Soulaimana, a hunk of a guy standing 1.93 meters tall and weighing 120 kilos, a professional dancer by profession.
It requires strategy (and) adaptability, which are important qualities in professional life," said Quidu, a researcher in sports sociology. If owners failed to comply, the government would carry out the demolition and bill them, he added. A new agency set up to prevent further collapses shows the scale of the problem of bad construction, urging residents not to build on roads, power cables, pipelines and waterways.
Kenyan authorities announced plans to demolish hundreds of buildings that are in bad shape or poorly constructed.
The memos followed meetings between Colombian diplomats and officials from the Office of the US Trade Representative and a Republican staffer on the Senate Finance Committee whose chairman, Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah, has close ties to the pharmaceutical industry. He noted Colombia's healthcare system guarantees patients' access to all approved drugs and the budget is straining after years of price rises.
That is less than half the current regulated price but still well above what generic versions cost before they were banned when, after a decade of litigation, a Colombian court in 2012 awarded Novartis an exclusive patent on one of two forms of the drug. He also proposed raising the amount that marijuana users can legally carry to 28 grams from 5 grams. When you advertise with Google, ads for your business show up next to the natural search results. SMO Pros employs a strategic, multi-point process to build your successful SMO foundation, boost your SEO, and drive more potential customers to your site. A blog can be used as an extremely effective channel to promote new dental technology and cutting-edge products and services sold in your office, share in-depth information about specific treatments performed, or promote community events. The additional benefit is that this channel introduces your practice to prospective new patients through information delivered to them from a member of their own trusted network. It is much more convenient to tweet a message in seconds than to use a time-consuming media platform. Whether filming patient testimonials, a demonstration of a treatment, or just a simple office tour, dental practices are harnessing the marketing power of YouTube. It is interactive; users can browse other boards, repin images to their board, or "like" images. EU officials say they are working with the Polish authorities to ensure that any new interventions in the forest are in line with their regulations, but it's not yet clear what the result will be. But environmentalists say the logging plan is so extensive it would inevitably lead to the destruction of old-growth areas. Carrying bodies down Qomolangma, also known as Mount Everest in the West, takes at least eight Sherpas since they become frozen and heavier than normal. Soldiers were setting up roadblocks and people were carrying their belongings and leading farm animals to safety.
For that reason, I feel happy to be able to sign this law, under which for the first time the government guarantees social recognition of people with rights, regardless of their sexual orientation," Vice-President Alvaro Garcia Linera said at Bolivia's Palace of Government in La Paz. Today the transsexual and transgender group is enriching Bolivia's democracy," Garcia Linera said. Over three decades, he has at times been Netanyahu's closest ally and at other times a fierce rival. Over the last few decades, locals have extracted groundwater relentlessly, severely depleting the water table. Located in the basin of the Krishna River, Miraj is one of the few cities in the region that has escaped the drought. The water that gushes into the well is then pumped out through another grid of underground pipes to the rail yard at Miraj.
In 2009, the government declared a public health emergency after spending on sophisticated drugs had risen tenfold in just a few years. In this way, Google AdWords ads connect you with potential customers precisely when they’re looking for the products and services you offer.
The minimum bid takes into consideration the quality of the landing page as well, which includes the relevancy and originality of content, navigability, and transparency into the nature of the business. Your dental office can reach out to millions of potential patients in a matter of a few clicks. Google's social sharing feature is proven to drive traffic to your website, increasing your visibility in the networks' integrated search results.

For example, your dental practice may pin items such as "Top 5 Ways To Keep Teeth Healthy," "Teeth Whitening Techniques," or "Foods You Can Eat While in Braces." If they agree, using your patients' before-and-after dental photos can create valuable content on Pinterest. Though Google has released a list of full guidelines for sites, the precise formula and meaning of relevance and its definition is in part secret to Google and the parameters used can change dynamically. Designate a staff member to update the blog at least once a week or make time on your schedule to do so, even if it's just to remind patients about a contest. How it works: Twitter is an interactive stream of messages that are limited to a maximum of 140 characters each. One of the key features of Google+ is "Circles," which are simply groups that contain your contacts.
Pinterest drives more referral traffic on the web than Google+, YouTube, Reddit, and LinkedIn -- combined. Alternatively, hire a company with dental-specific social media expertise to manage the postings on your behalf. Set up a profile for your dental practice and then start adding your patients (if they agree to it), local businesses, and other dental-related professionals to your public circles.
